The comparison between two managerial leadership styles or techniques has been evaluated thoroughly. Also, the probable opportunities and challenges of using both of these leadership theories have been elaborated. Besides this, one of the leadership theories has been preferred, and the success regarding factors has been analyzed.
Preferable Theories
The most effective and worthwhile leadership styles of Autocratic leadership style and Democratic leadership style have been preferred for discussion of the context. In these cases, Autocratic leaders always make choices or decisions based on their personal beliefs, and they are not involved with others to give or share their suggestions or directions.
This leadership is efficient for quick decision-making and determines rules and structure. Adversely, Democratic leadership lets multiple people participate in the decision-planning process. This leadership theory can nurture a sense of possession and commitment and enhance creativity, which is why most organizations prefer it (Erdem, 2021). In order to move forward in the present study, the Democratic leadership style has been chosen out of two effective leadership theories.
Comparison between Autocratic and Democratic leadership theory
The distinction between Autocratic and democratic leadership theory is enormous. Autocratic leadership theory is also known as authoritarian leadership, marked by individual control over all decision-making processes and little input from group members, whereas the Democratic leadership style is known as participative leadership, which lets people be inspired to participate in the decision-making process (Ali et al, 2021).
The autocratic leadership style is enabled to enhance productivity and efficiency, whereas the Democratic leadership style can lead to better concepts and more creative solutions to troubles. In Democratic leadership, group members feel more involved and motivated to commit to projects which boost organizational behavior (Mullins, 2016).
Using an autocratic leadership style, there is less waiting time for any decisions to obtain approval, which permits subordinates to work promptly and competently, whereas a democratic leader engages in encouraging and helping employees set goals by sharing their opinions or thoughts to reach eventual organizational goals (Dastane, 2020).
Despite having tremendous scope for using both leadership styles, it has severe challenges that can prevent entire performance operations. The major challenges of using an autocratic leadership style are low employee morale and encouraged dependence, but the limitations of utilizing democratic leadership are that it is more difficult to make fast decisions when the decision-making method needs the insert of every person (Shields, 2015).
Moreover, the required time to coordinate meetings can be harmful to business when it entails prompt decisions or involves finishing time. Further, lack of creativity and lack of trust are considerable or remarkable drawbacks of utilizing the autocratic leadership style, whereas using democratic leadership has a chance of dealing with rejection, and the specified options may not be valued (Woods, 2021).
Also, democratic leadership has vital challenges. It can create a crisis, and in this leadership theory, participants in the organization’s decision-making processes lack knowledge and skills. Instead, the democratic leadership style has comparably more beneficial aspects than using autocratic style, for which democratic leadership theory has been preferred for the context.
